Are you a pipe smoker? How about a parent? Are you a blogger and/or podcaster? If you answered yes to two or more of these questions, then you understand the delicate balance that your life has taken on. You need to have time for your family, your hobby, and your content, and believe me, that’s not an easy task, especially if you’re like me and are blogging and podcasting.
Let’s look at the pipe smoking aspect in regards to parenting. How this is handled depends a lot on the age of any children you may have and how much your partner is willing to work with you. My children are all under the age of six, so no legal smokers among them yet. That is the first thing, you need to make it clear to minor children that no matter how much they may want to try piping with daddy, they need to be of legal age in your country, state/province, and follow all smoking laws in effect. (No matter how much you may or may not agree with them.)
Next, I have to say that you should avoid indoor smoking when you have young children. I am of the opinion that pipe tobacco is safer than cigarette tobacco but no one should risk the health of their young ones. I know, I hear your thoughts out there. But what if I live in an area that gets insanely cold and can’t smoke outside?? In that case, you have two options. Option 1) If you have a partner that will allow you indoor privileges to smoke in cold weather, you need to make sure you’re cleaning up after yourself, ventilating your smoking area with fresh air. So yes I mean open a window and vent out smoke, if you can get a fan that you can use to exhaust directly out the window. Run an air purifier, I was skeptical, but they work with only the strongest of tobacco smells lasting two days. Option 2) Don’t smoke until spring has sprung.
Also, if you’re like me, a stay at home Dad that needs to produce something while trying to find work so your wife can be the stay at home parent, you likely consider what you’re doing your job. It’s hard to convince a four-almost-five-year-old that you are working and can’t play with them right now.
So here you are making recordings and writing blog posts in between all the household work you’re doing….. you feel like screaming sometimes. Then you remember why you got into doing these things in the first place, you want to share your knowledge and joy for the hobby that you have come to love. You may have information to share with those who want to pursue pipe smoking but they don’t have the money for expensive things. (Lord knows I don’t.) There is always a way to do things on the cheap. You parent your children so that the can see that what you are doing, while it may be socially unacceptable, you love it and there is nothing wrong with that since you are not doing anything illegal or illicit. You can show them that even if you are working at something that doesn’t necessarily bring financial stability to your home, the act of working hard at raising them while producing something others can enjoy is a rewarding past time.
Thanks for looking everyone and good smokes!!
