Pipe Review: Morgan Cob Cigar

Hello internet, it’s time for a review of a pipe that I just recently received. A Morgan Cob Cigar, which, if your unfamiliar is a collaboration between Morgan Pipes and Missouri Meerschaum. I won this pipe in a weekly draw during the 2018 Cobfoolery contest put on by Scott Markwood of Aristocob.com.

I received this in the mail in time for a Monday night smoke, and if you read that post or tuned in to either Maple City Pipecast or Maple City Pipe Channel on YouTube you would have seen, heard or read about the details. I paired the pipe with some Mac Baren HH Vintage Syrian with the intention of smoking it during the weekly CSR live stream, but the mosquitoes were out and I fired it up early to drive them off.

What I found was a surprise, as I had less trouble with this pipe than I thought I would. I was able to light it without a problem once I got out my trusty Bic lighter. I didn’t even char the end surprisingly, once lit the pipe stayed lit for the duration of the smoke. I decided to turn the pipe every so often, to help prevent any possibility of a burn through and would recommend that as a technique if you have or ever get a hold of one of these pipes for your collection.

Now, you may be tempted to think that this was a hot smoking pipe, but you would be wrong. My guess is that only about half the length of this pipe is the bowl, while the other half is a built-in cooling chamber. That chamber is the key, in my opinion, to what makes this pipe the cool smoker it is.

I was very surprised at how much I enjoyed smoking this pipe after being skeptical going in. It was a pleasant surprise and has me thinking about getting a hold of some more Morgan pipes in the future. As to this cob cigar, I would rate it an 8 out of 10. I had a little bit of difficulty cleaning it out, not enough to make me want to put the pipe up as a novelty to be looked at as a curiosity, in fact, once it cooled off I loaded it up a second time the same night. The other small issue I have is that the pipe will not take the tamp end of my Czech tool, it looked like it should go but didn’t. Fortunately, I have some patented Aristocob tampers here and they fit in like a charm.

Those minor issues aside, this is a wonderful pipe that I will definitely brake out again when I have the urge to smoke a cigar and don’t have one available. I highly recommend this pipe and if you can get ahold of it or one of its briar cousins, you won’t be sorry you pulled the trigger on them.

Thanks for looking everyone and good smokes!!
